Dental Fillings

Even with the best oral hygiene, cavities happen. Left untreated, dental decay can have serious effects on your smile.

At Dental Haus Germantown, we provide fillings that are more conservative, longer-lasting, and more attractive than metal fillings.

What are composite fillings and what are the treatment benefits?

Dental fillings are used to treat cavities and decay. There are several types of fillings, such as composite, amalgam (silver), and gold fillings. Composite fillings are made of a soft, pliable composite resin that can be hardened and polished to resemble enamel. Patients are choosing this option more and more over amalgam fillings or gold fillings because they are:

Natural-Looking

Traditional fillings consist of a metal amalgam that is very noticeable. In contrast, the composite that is used for white fillings resembles natural dental tissue so closely, it even has applications in cosmetic dentistry.

Metal-Free

Amalgam fillings contain a mixture of various metals, including mercury. Although the American Dental Association recently reaffirmed the amount is entirely safe, many patients still prefer not to have metal placed in their bodies.

Conservative

The best way to preserve your oral health is to remove as little natural tooth structure as possible. Composite resin bonds more easily with a tooth than metal, allowing us to preserve more of your natural dental tissue.

Less Reactive

Metal amalgam expands and contracts when exposed to heat and cold. Over time, this can cause hairline cracks in an otherwise healthy tooth. Most of these patients will eventually require an inlay or onlay (a larger type of filling) or a porcelain dental crown to protect their oral health.

"Clean and Professional" Learn why patients choose us

"Clean, professional, everyone was very nice, and the standard dental cleaning I got was done very well as far as I could tell and everything they were doing was explained clearly...exactly what I'm looking for in a dentist/dentist office." Jamie W.

What to Expect The Filling Procedure

During a consultation at our Nashville dental office, your dentist will examine the tooth that needs to be repaired and determine if a dental filling will be sufficient. We also offer inlays, onlays, and porcelain crowns. For more extreme cavities or other dental damage, we might recommend dental implants following an extraction.
Fillings look more lifelike than ever before, and treatment is virtually painless.

Numb the Area

First, we will administer a local anesthetic to numb the tooth and surrounding tissue.

Prepare the Tooth

Next, we will remove any tooth decay and sterilize the tooth.

Clearfil™ Bonding

Before the cavity is filled, Clearfil bonding will be placed in the opening to reduce any post-treatment tooth sensitivity.

Place the Filling

The composite resin is used to fill the void after the removal of decayed tissue. The dentist will carefully shape the material.

Cure the Resin

A special type of light will expedite the bonding process and harden the composite filling. Lastly, the tooth will be polished to a lifelike sheen.
You might experience some slight sensitivity in the days following your appointment, but this side-effect will subside on its own.

Take a Closer Look at a Dental Filling

Your dentist will remove the areas of decay and create a clean opening in the tooth. Our Nashville practice uses composite resin fillings instead of amalgam fillings. This creates a natural-looking restoration that blends seamlessly with your enamel.

Does a Filling Hurt?

/

No. It is a common misconception that getting a dental filling hurts. In fact, seeking treatment for a cavity or dental damage can help eliminate painful symptoms such as toothaches, sensitivity, and more. You will be properly numbed with a local anesthetic before your dentist begins treatment. This ensures you are completely comfortable during the procedure. Clearfil bonding is also placed in the tooth before it is filled to further reduce post-treatment sensitivity for optimal comfort.

Affordable Financing Available

We work with most insurance providers to reduce or even eliminate out-of-pocket costs. However, we do not want financial barriers to prevent the patients of Nashville from receiving the dental care they need. For those without insurance or to help cover costs not covered by insurance, we offer CareCredit® financing.
